Qi Gong

Qi Gong is a movement practice based on the same principles and philosophy as acupuncture and Chinese medicine, which makes it uniquely suited to complement your treatments in the clinic!

I usually recommend that my patients practice 2-3 times per week (or more!). But even once a week can be helpful! My favorite introductory form is the 8 Brocades. It is a well-rounded way to balance the qi in your body and ensure it is flowing smoothly.

This video is a great version of the 8 Brocades, and she includes information about what organs and channels you’re working with.

Mimi Kuo-Deemer’s 8 Brocades Qi Gong form - about 15 minutes!

When watching the video, feel free to ignore the gender-based descriptions of hand placements in the beginning and end (she addresses this in a more recent video!) and just place your hands in the way that feels most comfortable to you in that moment. Also, remember to keep your knees soft and shoulders relaxed during the poses!

Mimi Kuo-Deemer

I love Mimi Kuo-Deemer’s very approachable teaching style and how she explains the theory behind the practice as she is demonstrating it. Here are a few more of her videos:

Seated Qi Gong

  • 8 Brocades - seated - this is an adapted version of the 8 Brocades practice that can be done while seated. You’re also welcome to do some poses seated (from this video) and some poses standing - whatever is accessible for you!

Red Thread Institute

  • Natural Breathing is a free 16-minute video and is a great practice to include throughout your day.
